Applying a Strategy

To apply a defined strategy to one or more features follow these steps:

  1. Enter Manufacturing mode.

  2. Select the feature(s) to be machined from the Features Window.

  3. Open the context menu with a right-hand mouse click and select Apply Strategy.

Alternatively, you can select the Apply Strategy command from the Solids menu.

  1. Browse for the required strategy definition file. The location for strategy files in EdgeCAM can be set using the Strategy Folder option on the General tab of the Preferences (Options menu) dialog, with the default set to the cam\strategy folder. Please note that EdgeCAM uses the location as set when applying strategies but Strategy Manager itself will always access the last used location.

When a strategy is applied to a feature, or to a number of features in turn, the attributes of that feature will be used by the strategy logic to set up instructions and modifiers as defined in the strategy.

For each feature in turn, Strategy Manager will apply the logic defined in the flow chart, beginning at the Start node and working downwards until an End node is reached. User defined attributes are re-initialised to their default values at the start of processing each feature.

If a feature contains a number of items, perhaps several identical holes, those items will all be used as geometric input for each of the instructions created.

Strategy Manager does not sort or order features in any way. All selected features will be processed in the order found by Feature Finder.

When a strategy is applied to features Strategy Manager automatically creates a log file. By default, this file (strategy.log) is stored in the EdgeCAM system folder called cam\strategy.

If required, the log file report can also be displayed on-screen in a feedback window. The feedback window is enabled/disabled using the Status Bars, Feedback (View menu) command.
