Before dimensioning a drawing, you should ensure that if multiple ports are active, that the model displayed within them is aligned correctly, and to the right scale, to produce an engineering drawing.
Configuring multiple ports to the same scale
To check the zoom scale of a view port use the View (Verify menu) command. If the ports scales are not the required scales or are different between ports then alter each port scale using the scale modifier of the Port, Zoom (View menu) command
For example, setting each port scale to 1 will display the model entities at 1:1 with the drawing frame dimensions.
Configuring the port origins to align the model within the drawing frame
To alter the origin of a port, use the origin modifier of the Port, Configure (View menu) command. This allows you to reposition the display of the component in one port in the X and/or Y axes so that it is aligned with the display in another port. In this way, the dimensioning between the two ports appears correct.
You do not have to see the whole of a part for it to be dimensioned. For example, it is possible to dimension the length of a long component, of which only the two ends are displayed. You can do this by displaying each end of the component in separate views.
