New Feature – feature extraction

This page allows you to select the method of feature recognition you want to use.

Select surfaces. With this method, a feature’s shape and depth are determined solely from selected surfaces. For slots this is the only applicable method. For more information see How to recognize features from surfaces

Use horizontal surface. This method can be used to create pockets from bottom surfaces or create bosses from top surfaces. See How to recognize pockets and bosses from top or bottom surfaces.

Automatic. This option is only available for pockets, sides and bosses. See also styles of automatic feature recognition for additional types of automatic feature recognition.

Chain feature curves. For milled features that require curves (bosses, pockets and sides) the shape of the features can be determined by chaining the curves in the plane of the current UCS. Use this technique for features that are made up of too many surfaces to conveniently pick. For more information see How to recognize features from surfaces using curve chaining. If you are trying to recognize drafted pockets or bosses, see How to recognize drafted features

Use Horizontal section.  This method creates curves by showing the silhouette curves at a particular depth.  It provides fewer curves than the chain feature curves method.
