This field corresponds to the Tool column in the  table and is the current tool slot number for that tool. Tools can occupy the same tool slot.

This field corresponds to the Comp column in the table and is the diameter cutter comp. offset register for that tool.  Note that the Same checkbox must be unchecked to assign this value to a tool.

Length offset register number corresponds to the Offset column in the table and is tool length offset register. Most lathe controllers have a single register that contains the length and diameter offset values. In this case, the Length offset register number is the important field to set in FeatureCAM.  Note that the Same checkbox must be unchecked to assign this value to a tool.

Tool ID (Tool in the table) is the tool ID register for the tool. This is a seldom used field that is used by Bridgeport lathes and occasionally for Cincinnati Machines lathes.   Note that the Same checkbox must be unchecked to assign this value to a tool.

Select a tool in the table, type in a Tool Number and click the Set button to assign this tool a number specific for this part.  This assignment is only for this part. If you want to permanently assign a tool to a tool slot for all parts, use the overrides tab of the tool properties dialog box. The Save in Crib button will permanently assign the tool number with the tool in the database. The tool will then be locked in this position for all parts that use the tool. See Tool manager for more information on tooling databases.

The tool number slot for the selected crib is erased.  This means the you want FeatureCAM to assign a tool number automatically.  

 

All tools numbers are set to their current values and will not be changed.

Reset returns all tool slot numbers and cutter comp offset registers to their initial values.

Same sets the cutter comp. offset registers for all tools to the value of their tool slot number.  You must uncheck this option to enter values for the Diameter offset register, Length offset register and Tool ID fields.

Tools can be rearranged by dragging an operation onto the tool numbers on the left hand column of the dialog box.  Note that you cannot drop a tool on top of a tool name.  You must drag it onto the tool number in the left hand column.  

Double click on an operation, or click on the "+" to the left of the tool name to see the list of operations that use that tool.  The figure below shows a 9 mm tool in slot number 5 that is used in 4 operations.  

If you click the "+" in the upper left-hand corner of the dialog, a dialog is displayed where you can increase the number of tool slots listed in the tool mapping dialog.  You can not reduce this number.

 

You can change the offset register for a specific operation by:

1. Double clicking on a tool to expand the list of operations that use that tool.

2. Click on the operation

3. Type in the Diameter offset register number or Length offset register number at the bottom of the dialog box.
