This example generates a surface from a set of points and uses the phone_mod_scan.hnc model from the Examples folder.

Before we start creating the surfaces, we need to delete unneeded points that could distort the surface if selected.

  1. Select File – Examples and use the Open File dialog box to open the phone_mod_scan.hnc model.

  2. Click on the Edit Points button on the main toolbar to display its side toolbar.

  3. Select the points on the lead-in and lead-out scanlines, and also those on the base plane, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Your model should now look like this:

  1. Click on the Create Untrimmed Surfaces from Points button . CopyCAD displays the following dialog box.

  2. Select all the points by placing a drag box around them.

  3. Change the Number of Patches to 10 and click on Preview. The untrimmed surface is displayed after a small wait.

  4. If the surface fit exceeds the tolerance, a warning box is displayed. Click on OK to close the warning box.

You can either increase the number of patches or the surface degree to improve the fit of the surface to the underlying points.

Alternatively, you can amend the selected points set, either adding or removing points from the selection before you preview the surface. You can see from the example above that the surface bends under the main surfaces. This is because not all the unneeded points were deleted from the point set.

  1. When you are happy with the previewed surface, click on Accept to create the untrimmed surface
