3D Profile Limiting

You can now split a triangle model into two parts based on a 3D profile. This option has been added to the Limit Model dialog box.

It allows you to create a split line using a 3D polyline lying on or near a triangle model. CopyCAD projects each point in the polyline onto the nearest triangle in the model within the Limiting Range, then and splits the model into two parts.

You can create the polyline by polygonising a selected curve using the Convert to Polyline button on the Curve Editing toolbar .

The Limit Model button is now also available on the Triangle Modelling toolbar.

To limit a model using a 3D profile:

  1. Select the model you want to split.

  2. Click on the Limit Model button .

  3. In the Limit To area, select the Split 3D profile (from a model) option.

Note: You cannot select an option in the Keep area – CopyCAD selects the Both option for you and splits the model into two new models, which have the prefixes splitleft_ and splitright_.

  4. In the Limit Options area, enter a Limiting Range which is the approximate maximum distance between the polyline and triangle model.

  5. In the Define Limiting Model area, select the polyline model for the split line. This must be a closed polyline that is within the limiting range of the triangle model.

  6. Click on Apply to create two triangle models based on the split line.

  7. Click on Accept to close the Limit Model dialog box.
