Smooth Surface – Whole Surface

You can smooth all the points in a surface using the Smooth Surface dialog box's Whole Surface tab. You should use this option when the whole of the surface shows uneven ripples when you select dynamic shading.

To smooth all the points in a surface:

  1. With a surface model displayed, click and drag over a single surface patch to select it. The surface's internals turn red to show that they are selected.

Note: If you select more than one surface, the Smooth Single Surface button remains greyed out and unavailable.

  1. Click on the Smooth Single Surface button to display its dialog box.

  2. Type the tolerance you want to use in the Tolerance box. This sets the maximum amount of movement allowed for each point in the surface.

  3. Type the number of steps you want CopyCAD to use when carrying out the smoothing action in the Maximum Number of Iterations box.

  4. If you want to allow the points on the surface boundaries to move, make sure that the Smooth boundary points (excluding shared boundaries) check box is selected.

Note: If the boundary is shared by another surface, the points will remain in their current position.

  1. If you want to draw the original surface so that you can see how each point has moved, make sure that the Draw original surface check box is selected.

Note: You can also turn the original surface on or off after the smoothing operation, using this check box.

  1. Click on Apply to smooth the surface.

During this process, CopyCAD displays a progress bar and stop button in the status bar. If you want to stop the smoothing process, click on the button.

When the surface has been smoothed, the maximum adjustment to a point is displayed in the status bar.

  1. Click on Accept to close the Smooth Surface dialog box.
