Smooth Curve
The Smooth Curve button
allows you to smooth the selected curve to a set tolerance.
CopyCAD sets a tolerance band, which is like a 3D tube around the curve, and the curve is smoothed within this band. If you want to smooth only part of the curve, you can pick the points in that part. CopyCAD smoothes the curve either side of the picked points.
You can set the number of times that CopyCAD smoothes the curve within the tolerance.
To smooth a curve:
- Make sure that curves are displayed on the model: if they are not, click on the Draw Curves button
on the Draw toolbar.
- Click on the Curve Editing button
on the main toolbar to display its side toolbar.
- In the graphics window, click on the curve you want to edit. It turns red to show that it is selected.
- Click on the Smooth Curve button
on the side toolbar.
- Select the type of smoothing you want:
- To smooth the whole curve, leave the Whole Curve tab selected
- To smooth the curve either side of the points on the curve, select the Picked Points tab, then pick the points in the graphics window.
- Type the tolerance you require in the Tolerance box.
- Type the number of times you want CopyCAD to recalculate the curve, in the Maximum Number of Iterations box.
- If you want to view the original curve, leave the Draw original curve option selected. This will only be visible while you have the Smooth Curve dialog box open.
- Click on the Apply button to smooth the curve.
CopyCAD displays the tolerance achieved during the smoothing in a message box.
- Click on the Accept button to close the Smooth Curve dialog box.
