Filter Model - Points

The Points tab of the Filter Model dialog box allows you to filter out noise in a point model. The Filtering Options area allows you to select the method and tolerance to use.

The Method list box contains the following options:

• Spike Smoothing – select this option to smooth spikes in a point model which are made up of fewer points than the value you set in the Ignore spikes of more than (points) box below.

For example, if you set the value to 5, CopyCAD will smooth the spike shown below, by deleting all five of the points in the spike.

If you left the default value of 2.0 as the Ignore spikes of more than (points) CopyCAD would not delete the points in the spike.

Note: Spikes will only be smoothed if they are also within the tolerance set in the Tolerance box below. This value defines the minimum distance spike points can be from other model points

• Weighted Average Smooth – select this option to reposition each point to an average position of the point and its neighbouring points that are within the distance specified as the Tolerance value below.

For example, if you have a multiple scan set, you can filter noise from the point model using the Weighted Average Smooth method to smooth the data from the scan sets, as shown below.
