Align Model
When you click on the Align Model button
on the Model Editing toolbar, CopyCAD displays the Align Model dialog box.
You can use this dialog box to:
- align neighbouring scans
- align a detailed scan on top of another scan
- align a model with a reference model to check its deviation.
You can align points, scanline and triangle models.
CopyCAD displays the alignment and reference models in the Graphics window, so that you can visualise how they need to be moved into alignment.
There are three different ways of aligning, and you can use one method or a combination of methods to align models. For example, when aligning two models using datums, you may find it easier to visualise the models if you first move or rotate the alignment model.
- You can use the Manual Align tab to move a single model into position by moving and rotating it in X, Y and Z to provide an approximate alignment with the reference model. CopyCAD displays both models on screen and you tweak the alignment until the alignment model fits with the reference model. You can see when they are roughly aligned in the Graphics window.
- You can use the Datum Align tab to select datum points on the align model, then match them to the same datum points on the reference model. CopyCAD transforms the alignment model to match the reference model. The current deviation from the original model is displayed in the Status bar.
The datum points can either be picked points on the model or the calculated centre of tooling ball spheres attached to the model.
- You can use the Best Fit tab to align multiple models that are already roughly aligned. You can also select to append just the points in the model, or all the entities in the model to create a composite model. You use this method to align multiple scan sets that make up a 3D part, when they are already roughly aligned in the same workspace.
