Smoothing the Triangle Model
You can now smooth the triangle model to improve the quality of the surface further. Smoothing triangles does not add or reduce the number of triangles, rather it raises and lowers the triangle nodes, to eliminate spikes or flaws in the triangle model.
To smooth the triangles:
- Click on the Interactive Triangle Editing button
on the Triangle Modelling side toolbar.
- In the Interactive Triangle Editing dialog box's Smooth tab, make sure that the settings are as follows:
- 5, as the Diameter of the smoothing brush
- 50, as the Strength of the smooth action
- 100, as the Smoothness of the smooth action
- Raise and Lower, is set as the Smoothing Action
- Move the mouse cursor over the triangle model. This changes to a small circle, which is the size of the smoothing brush.
- Click and hold down the left mouse button to smooth the triangles underneath the brush.
- Smooth out the irregularities in the shaded triangle model, paying particular attention to the central depression where we will create the new surfaces.
- When you are satisfied with the smoothness of the triangles, click on Accept to save your changes and close the Interactive Triangle Editing dialog box.
Note: If you want to undo the smoothing action, click on the Erase tab, then pass the brush over the model again to gradually undo the smooth process.
When you have finished smoothing the model, you should be able to see the difference in its quality.
