Horizon Line Example

A curve can now be generated from the horizon line of a triangle model. CopyCAD detects the horizon line where the triangles are at the specified angle to the current view in the Graphics window. Horizon lines can be detected when triangles are at an angle of between 0 and 90 degrees.

In the example below, a horizon line has been created where the angle of the hemisphere's triangles is at 10º to the Z view. The model has then been rotated so that you can see this clearly.

As the horizon line follows the triangle edges, the line can be very uneven, as shown in the example below:

You can create a smooth curve along the horizon line by setting a large tolerance for curve fitting, for example 2.0 rather than the default 0.1.

This approximate curve can be used to limit the model back to the triangles in the horizon line, using the 3D profile triangle limiting functionality.
