The Reference Model list box in the Error Analysis dialog box allows you to select model containing the reference data against which you want to calculate the errors.
The list box allows you to select the current model or another model open in this CopyCAD session:
| Current Model | Reference Model | Usage |
| Points | Points | If you want to compare two models of the same design, and report on the deviation between points in the current model and those in the reference model. |
| Points | Triangles | If you want to find the deviation between the points in the current model and the triangles in the reference model. |
| Points | Surfaces | If you want to find the deviation between the points in the current model and the surfaces in the reference model. |
| Triangles | Triangles | If you want to compare two models of the same design, and report on the deviation between the triangles in the current model and those in the reference model. |
| Triangles | Surfaces | If you want to find the deviation between the triangles in the current model and the surfaces in the reference model. |
You can use the Show errors on reference model (triangle models only) check box to view the deviation between the original point set and the triangulated model, or between two triangle models.
The example below shows the deviation between a triangulated model and its original points model, showing the accuracy of the triangulation.

CopyCAD calculates the errors and displays them on both the current model and the reference model. This is shown in the example below, which compares a wrapped and triangulated model with the original underlying triangle model.
