Skewing Objects

While Bryce does not have the ability to deform objects by manipulating vertices, objects can be skewed to get some interesting shapes, like making a diamond shape out of a cube.

This is accomplished by rotating the object, then resizing the object in World Object mode using the Scaling tool.

For an example:

  1. Create a cube, rotate it 45 degrees on the Z-axis, and drop it to ground.

  2. Select World Space from the Scaling or Resizing tool sub-menu.

  3. The bounding box changes to align with World Space.

  4. Scale along the X or Z-axis.

  5. The cube skews along that axis.

  6. Now scale the other way.

  7. And it skews in the opposite direction.

  8. Continue rotating the object and scaling along different axes just to see what happens.

And here's the object above rendered.

Now for a pyramid:

This is a pyramid skewed so much that it is literally folded in on itself:

And when rotated, is completely flat:

Any object can be skewed, including imported objects, metaballs, and infinite planes. Below are examples of a skewed cone, sphere, cylinder, and torus:

And here they are rendered:

And of course, you can still adjust the radius of the torus to get a thinner object:

And lights can cast some interesting shapes when skewed:
