Importing Static Objects via Poser Export
Figures can also be exported from Poser into Bryce, however, not all Poser material settings transfer to Bryce. The MTL file exported with the OBJ file includes basic color settings, textures, bump maps, and transparency maps (as of Poser 6 SR2). However, since the MTL file uses "map_d" instead of "map_D," the transmaps don't import into Bryce. This is easily taken care of as shown below.
To import static objects from Poser:
- Launch Poser and load the figures, etc. you need for your scene. (You may need to hide the eyebrow mesh using the provided morphs for the figure.)
- Once you have created your Poser scene, choose File > Export > Wavefront OBJ from the menu.
- The Export Range dialog will come up. Choose Single Frame and click on OK. The Select Objects dialog will come up.
- Check the selections to make sure that everything you want to export is selected and anything you don't want exported is deselected. Click on OK. The Export Options dialog will come up.
- Select the export options you want to export.

- Click on OK to accept the settings.
- The Export as dialog will come up. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the OBJ file and rename the file.

- Click on Save. The file will be exported to the selected directory.
- Close Poser.
- If the figure included transparency maps, navigate to the directory where you saved the OBJ file and open the matching MTL file in a text editor.

- In the text editor, do a search/replace and replace "map_d" with "map_D."

- Save and close the MTL file.
- Open Bryce and choose File > Import Object from the menu. The File Open dialog will come up.
- Locate the mesh file and click on Open.
- Bryce will import the object, then start asking you to locate the textures. For each texture it asks for, navigate to the textures folder where the image is located and click on Open. Continue until all textures have been imported.
- When the import is complete, your object(s) will be very tiny. This is because Bryce imports static objects at their actual size and not scaled to match Poser.

- To increase the size of the object(s), you can manually resize it by using the Scaling tool or by dragging on the object handles.
However, it is easier to resize using the 3D Transformation tool:
- Click on Edit to bring up the Edit Palette, then click on the triangle under the Scaling tool. Choose 3D Transformations from the menu:

- Enter a percentage in the Size fields, such as 800%, then click on the checkmark to accept the change:

- The object(s) will resize by the entered amount, but may be below the ground plane. Click on the triangle under the Align tool and choose Snap To Ground from the menu:

- The object(s) will snap up to the ground plane and your import is complete:
