Trackball Mode
In Trackball Mode, the camera orbits around your scene. The center of the orbit, or origin, is the center point of a box that encompasses all the objects in your scene.
As the size of your scene changes, so does the size of the box, which changes the box's center point. As a result, the center of rotation for the camera also changes as you change the size of your scene. In fact, in this mode the camera's center of rotation is constantly updated, so that it always remains in the center of the scene.
To change to Trackball Mode:
- If the Camera View is active, click on the Camera Perspective Toggle to switch to Director's View.

- If any of the Orthogonal Views are active, click on the triangle next to the Select Views control and choose Director's View from the menu.

- Click on the triangle next to the Trackball and choose Trackball from the menu.
OR
- Double-click either the Trackball or one of the Camera Controls. The Camera & 2D Projection dialog appears.
- Click the Trackball mode button at the top of the dialog.

- Click on the OK icon to close the dialog.
- Use the Trackball to move the camera around your scene. The objects in the scene will remain in the center of the scene with the Director's View moving around the objects in a spherical orbit.
If you move any of the objects so that the scene bounding box is decreased or increased, the view rotation will decrease or increase to match.
The image below shows a sphere to give an example of where the camera will potentially rotate around the entire scene:
