Smooth Clip aX+b

This filter works exactly like the Clip filter. It's also a contrast filter, except that this filter smoothes out the transitions between darks and grays. The a variable controls the contrast and b controls the overall brightness.

In these examples, Smooth Clip was applied to Linear Sine noise.
