Import Object
The Import Object command allows you to import objects in the following file formats:
- 3d Studio® Objects (.3ds)
- 3d Studio® Project Files (.prj)
- 3DMF (.3mf, .b3d, & .t3d)
- AutoCad® (.dfx)
- Direct 3D (.x)
- Heightfield (.hf) Used to import descriptions of heightfields (terrains)
- LightWaveT (.lwo or .lws)
- Both objects and scenes are supported. The camera, lights, and all objects (with material information) are imported. Versions 6 and up are not supported.
- Portable Greyscale Map (.pgm) Used to import descriptions of heightfields (terrains)
- TrueSpaceT (.cob) Versions up to 4.0 are supported. Material properties are supported
- USGS DEM (.dem) All forms of DEM files are supported
- USGS SDTS (.ddf) This format is the new USGS format which will replace DEM files
- VideoScape (.vsa) All versions are fully supported
- VRML1 (.wrl) Imports all properties relevant to Bryce, including camera, light, and surface and material textures
- Wavefront (.obj) Imports any textures referenced in the MTL file, if available
- WCS Elev (.elev)
- WorldToolKit® (.nff)
To import an object:
- Choose File > Import Object from the menu. The Open dialog will come up.
- Choose the drive and folder where the file is stored.
- Select the file to import and click on Open.
Note that when importing objects with an MTL file containing image references (exports from Poser are most often affected), if the pathname to the file is not in the MTL file or if the images are not in the same directory as the OBJ file, then you will be asked to locate each texture. Navigate to the folder(s) where the textures are located and select them when prompted.
Two programs that help with this are Grouper and MeTaL Fixer - unfortunately for Mac users, these are PC only applications.
