To open an existing SAP2000 model, click the File menu > Open command to access a standard Windows form for opening files. Select the folder where the SAP2000 file is located. Models are saved in a binary file with an .SDB extension.
If a file created using Version 6 or 7 of SAP2000 is selected, the file must first be translated into Version 8 before it can be used in this version. See Import SAP2000 V6 or V7 s2k File for more information.
Quickly access the most recently opened SAP2000 models by clicking on the file name listed near the bottom of the File menu, above the File menu > Exit command.
Tip: The complete model definition is automatically written as a SAP2000 tabular database in a text file with a .$2K extension whenever the model is saved. If for some reason the model cannot be opened using the .SDB file, try importing the corresponding .$2K file. See Import SAP2000 V8/V 9V10 .s2k Text File for more information.
