Form:  Import Tabular Database

Use the File menu > Import > SAP2000 V8/V9/10 .s2k Text File command to import SAP2000 model definition data that is stored in plain (ASCII) text format, usually in a file with an .s2k extension. Data can be imported into a new model or added to an existing model. The data could have been exported from the SAP2000 graphical user interface. For example, certain features can be exported from one model and imported into another model. In addition, exporting a model, modifying it, and then re-importing the data is useful for parameter studies and for iterative shape-finding problems.

  1. Use the File menu > Import > SAP2000 V8/V9/10 .s2k Text File command to access the Import Tabular Database form and import SAP2000 model definition data from a plain (ASCII) text file.

  2. Use the options available on the Import Tabular Database form to import the data into an existing model or to create a new model.

Tip: The complete model definition is automatically written out as a SAP2000 tabular database in a text file with extension .$2K whenever a model is saved. This file is intended for recovering the model in emergency crash situations. If for some reason you cannot open a SAP2000 model file (.SDB), try importing the corresponding .$2K file.
