Form: Save AutoCAD .DXF File As, DXF File Export Option, DXF Export
A *.dxf file is an AutoCAD Drawing Interchange File. This file format can be read by many graphics programs and is commonly used to exchange drawings between programs. The SAP2000 .dxf export feature is intended to facilitate exporting geometry data into AutoCAD format compatible with AutoCAD r14, AutoCAD 2000 and AutoCAD 2002, and other .dxf compatible programs.
Note: To export a limited number of objects, select the objects to be exported before clicking the File menu > Export > AutoCAD .dxf/.dwg File command.
Click the File menu > Export > AutoCAD .dxf/.dwg File command to access the Save AutoCAD .DXF File As form and specify the path and filename for storing the exported file.
Click the OK button on the Save AutoCAD .DXF File As form and SAP2000 will display the DXF File Export Option form. Choose Yes to use the program default layer names specified for the objects in the model. Choose No to access the DXF Export form and specify layer names for the geometry data for the objects in the SAP2000 model.
Select layer names from the drop-down lists for the geometry data of the objects in the SAP2000 model. A layer name can be used for only one object type. SAP2000 will issue a warning message if you attempt to assign the same layer name to more than one object type.
Add Layer button. Type a layer name in the edit box near the bottom of the form and click the Add Layer button to add a layer name to the drop-down lists used in the upper portion of the form. After adding a new layer name, the new layer can be assigned to an object by clicking the associated drop-down list and selecting the new layer from the drop-down list.
If no data is to be exported for a given object type, choose NONE from the corresponding drop-down list.
Click the OK button when finished with the layer assignments.

The model exported is a 3D representation of the structure unless the active window in SAP2000 is a 2D view. In that case, a 2D representation of the model is exported. In a 2D view, all text showing in the SAP2000 screen is also exported.
