Tendon Data for Line Object Form

Use the Tendon Data for Line Object form to specify tendon segment type, property, load, discretization and other parameters.

Tendon Layout Data

• Point ID display cell. The number shown in this display cell is assigned by the program to identify the tendon.

• Segment Type drop-down list and 1 Coord, 2 Coord, 3 Coord edit boxes.  The necessary data can be specified using the following alternative approaches:

• Select a segment type from the drop-down list and where appropriate specify the 1, 2 and 3 coordinates in the spreadsheet cells, and then use the Insert Above, Insert Below, Modify, or Delete buttons to specify a segment or to modify or delete a previously specified segment. The two defaults cannot be modified or deleted because they define the beginning and the end of the tendon. Adding segments to the tendon definition allows changes to the alignment of the tendon. Click the Delete All button to delete all segment entries except the defaults; SAP2000 will display a message box asking for confirmation that all entries are to be deleted.

• Quick Start button. Click the Quick Start button to display the Tendon Quick Start Templates form, which has a number of options for the tendon alignment. Select an option by clicking on it and then click the OK button.

• If a "Straight Tendon" option has been selected, the Tendon Data for Line Object form will redisplay with data for the selected option transferred automatically to it.

• If a "Parabolic Tendon" option has been selected, the Define Parabolic Tendon Layout for Line Object {Number} form will display with the data for the selected option transferred automatically to the spreadsheet area of that form. Use that form to refine the tendon alignment as needed.

• Parabolic Calculator button. Click the Parabolic Calculator button to display the Define Parabolic Tendon Layout for Line Object {Number} form. Use that form to define a parabolic tendon alignment.

• Tendon Layout Display area.

• Double click the graphic in the display area to display the Tendon Layout Display for Line Object form; use that form to review the tendon layout relative to the 1-2, 1-3, and 2-3 axes. When the mouse pointer is moved over any of the graphics, the coordinate location and distance of the pointer from the start of the segment will display in the associated display boxes (1,2 or 1, 3, or 2, 3).
  
  The Coordinate System, Object Type, and Object drop-down lists can be used to specify that any coordinate system be used for the displays shown on the 1-2, 1-3, or 2-3 display areas. Note that the presence or absence of the Object drop-down list depends on the selection made in the Object Type drop-down list. The Snap To options function similarly to those on the  Tendon Data for Line Object form (see Snap Option description below). Click the Done button to close the form and return to the Tendon Data for Line Object form.

• Refresh Plot button. Click this button to ensure that changes made on the Tendon Data for Line Object form are reflected in the display area.

• Show Table button. Click this button to display the Tabulated Tendon Profile for Line Object {Number} form. The spreadsheet area of that form displays the tendon data in tabular format. The cells cannot be edited and are provided for informational purposes as well as to provide an opportunity to copy the data or send the data to Excel.

• Mouse Pointer Location edit/display box. When the mouse pointer is moved over the graphic, the distance of the pointer from the beginning of the segment and the coordinate location relative to the 1-2, 1-3 and 2-3 axes will display in the associated display boxes. It is possible to type a value in the Distance edit box to display the 1-2, 1-3, and 2-3 coordinates for that specific location on the segment.

• Tendon Layout Display Options area.

• Show 1-2 Axes option. When this option is selected, the 1-2 Axes view of the specified segment is shown in the Tendon Layout Display area of the form.

• Show 1-3 Axes option. When this option is selected, the 1-3 Axes view of the specified segment is shown in the Tendon Layout Display area of the form.

• Show 2-3 Axes option. When this option is selected, the 2-3 Axes view of the specified span is shown in the Tendon Layout Display area of the form.

• Snap Option

• No Snap option. When this option is chosen, no snaps are enabled and, as the mouse pointer is moved over any of the display, the location of the mouse pointer will display, as appropriate, in the 1, 2, and 3 display boxes in the Mouse Pointer Location area in the lower left of the form.

• Snap To Tendon option. When this option is chosen, SAP2000 displays a small red dot that snaps to the tendon or tendon segment and displays the coordinate data for that point along the tendon in the Mouse Pointer Location area in the lower left of the form.

• Units drop-down list. Use the displayed units or select new units from the drop-down list.

• Move Tendon button. Click the Move Tendon button to display the Move Tendon form.

• Tendon End Point Objects

• I End display box. Displays the numerical ID for the joint at the beginning of the tendon.

• J End display box.  Displays the numerical ID for the joint at the end of the tendon.

• Tendon Section drop-down list and Add and Show buttons. This drop-down list displays the tendon sections that have been defined for the model. As necessary, change the tendon section by selecting another section from that list. Clicking the Add and Show button displays the Tendon Section Data form.

• Tendon Loads display box and the Add and Show buttons. This drop-down list displays the load case to which the tendon definition has been added. As necessary, change the load case by selecting another load from that list. Clicking the Add button displays the Tendon Load form; use the form to specify a new load case for the tendon.  When the Show button is used, the Tendon Load Assignment for Line Object form displays. That form displays the load data for review purposes and the data cannot be edited.

• Tendon Local Axes Angle display box and the Modify button. The angle of the tendon relative to the X axis is shown in this display box. Click the Modify button to display the Tendon Local Axis form. To change the angle of the tendon, enter a value in the Angle in Degrees edit box.

• Max. Tendon Discretization and Length edit box. Use this edit box to specify frequency of discretization of the tendon by specifying a Length in the edit box.

• Group Loaded by Tendon drop-down list. Use this drop-down list to select the group of objects to which the tendon load is being applied. The Group would be expected to consist of, for example, point, line, area, or solid objects comprising slabs, beams and the like.

• Coordinate System drop-down list. Use the drop-down list to select a coordinate system other than global if one has been defined (see Define Coordinate Systems/Grids for more information about defining a coordinate system).

• Object Type drop-down list. Depending on the selection made in the Coordinate System drop-down list,  this drop-down list will display. Select an object type and the coordinate system for the specified object type.

• Object drop-down list. Depending on the selection made in the Object Type drop-down list, this drop-down list will display, listing the IDs for the target object type. Select an ID and the coordinate system for the specific object.
