Required Step 1

Select a 2D or 3D curve or edge, or a continuous series of edges / curves. You can join a series of curves into one curve by using the Composite Curve function. See Neutral Plane if you wish to create the taper from a face.

Note: If you select an edge that is smoothly connected to adjacent edges, all smooth edges will be automatically selected.

...all smoothly connected edges are automatically selected.

Press exit when all curves / edges are selected.

Required Step 2

Select the faces to be tapered. If edges were selected above, each selected face must have at least one edge in common with those selected.

Note: If you select a face that is smoothly connected to adjacent faces, all smooth faces will be automatically selected

If 2D curves / edges were selected in Required Step 1, the default taper direction is normal to the curve plane. For 3D curves / edges, the default taper direction is parallel to the smallest side of the curve bounding box. You can use the arrow to change the taper direction.

Press exit when all faces are selected.

Required Step 3

Set the Taper angle and direction. The number of degrees is the angle between the face normal and the draft direction regardless of the angle of the face before taper was assigned (absolute value). You can flip the taper direction by clicking the arrow; in this case the taper will proceed outward from the selected edges.

When you have set the parameters, press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function. The taper is applied to the faces.

Required Step 1

Select a face. In the example below, the bottom face is selected:

Required Step 2

Select the face(s) to be tapered.

Note: If you select a face that is smoothly connected to adjacent faces, all smooth faces will be automatically selected.

Press exit when all faces are selected.

Required Step 3

Set the taper angle (in this case 30 degrees) and direction. You can flip the taper direction by clicking the Flip button; in this case the taper will proceed outward from the selected face.

When you have set the parameters, press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function. The taper is applied to the face(s).

When completed, the Taper will appear in the Feature Tree as follows:
