Define Active Parts

Define the Active Parts from the results of a Split operation. This process involves assigning Splits and Locations to active parts.

Note: This is the first of a two part process of converting the results of a Split operation into the Assembly tree. The second part consists of assigning the created active parts to assemblies.

The Define Active Parts dialog is displayed:

This dialog displays:

  1. The Parting Tree, containing the results of the Split operation.

  2. The default Active Parts list.

Icons:

Work part.

Unassigned Split.

Assigned Split.

Unassigned Location.

Assigned Location.

Active parts.

Buttons:

Assign to Active Part: Assign Splits / Locations to active parts.

Unassign from an Active Part: Unassign Splits / Locations from active parts.

Assign to new Active Parts: Assign each Location (if multiple Locations or Splits were selected) to a new active part.

Create a new Active Part.

Delete an Active Part: Assigned Splits / Locations become unassigned.

Access the On-line Help for this dialog. As usual, this can also be accessed by pressing the F1 key.

Save and Close the dialog.

Cancel.

Notes:

The end result of this operation is that all the Splits and Locations have been assigned to active parts, and may look something like this:

 

Identifying Display Items

All items in the Parting Tree can be identified in the display by clicking the appropriate item. Some examples of this are shown below, such as identifying:

a work part

a cavity split

a core split

a specific cavity location

a specific core location

Once Splits / Locations have been assigned to active parts, this functionality is also available from the Active Parts tree. In addition, assigned items can also be identified between the trees; for example, a Location in the Active Parts tree can be identified by selecting the appropriate Location in the Parting Tree, and vice versa. Identified items in trees are denoted by gray icons and names displayed in red.

However, not all names displayed in red are necessarily items identified between trees; items that were previously assigned, but are now unassigned, are also displayed in red in the Parting Tree, however their icons are not gray.

Button Display

The Assign/Unassign, etc. buttons are displayed only when a legal operation can be carried out. For each operation only the relevant buttons are displayed.

Approval Options

Having completed the assignments, select the appropriate approval option:

Save the results of the Active Parts assigned to Assemblies and close the dialog.

Close the dialog without saving. All information entered in the current session will be lost. A warning message is displayed.
