Split by Curve / Edge

Split one or more faces by a splitting curve or edge. The curve can be projected onto the face.

Single Surface

Required Step 1

To split a single face, pick the face to be split and Exit .

Required Step 2 :

Pick the splitting curve or edge. This can also include sketches and composite curves.

The curve can lie on the face, or it can be projected onto the face for splitting purposes, as shown below.

Set the Max Tolerance parameter. For optimal performance and success rate, a maximum tolerance of 0.1 mm (0.0039 inches) should be used. If a value greater than 0.1 mm is used, the split operation takes longer as the splitting curve or edge is first projected onto the face and then the face is split.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

The face is now split into two faces.

Multi-Surface

Required Step 1

  1. To split multi-faces, pick the faces to be split (three faces in the example below) and Exit .

Required Step 2 :

Pick the splitting curve or edge. (in this example a spline).

The modal Normal Projection is the default whereby a curve is projected onto a face in a normal direction. Toggle to Direction Projection to project a curve in a user-defined direction.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

The faces are now split accordingly. The drawing below shows both Normal Projection (red) and Direction Projection along the Y-axis (green).

When completed, the Split will appear in the Feature Tree as follows:
