In this option, you can draw lines between points, edges, curves and faces.

The following are the Line creation options:

Two Points

Create a line or chain of lines between picked points

Required Step 1

If the Single option is selected, the line will be created. Additional lines can then be created.

If Chain is selected, after picking the 3rd point the Open/Close toggle button is activated allowing the chain to remain open, or closed by connecting the 1st and last points picked.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

Two Curves

Create a line between these two curves/edges (Normal or Tangent to each of them).

Required Step 1

Pick the first curve/edge and toggle between Normal and Tangent. In this case, Normal (the default) will be selected. (Remember that the line will be created depending on where you pick the curve or edge).

Pick the second curve.

The default again is Normal. If this is what you want, exit to create the line. Otherwise, toggle to Tangent.

In this case, the second circle was selected at a point near the "front". Therefore, the closest tangent point is as shown below.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

Point to Curve/Face

Create a line starting at the selected point and Normal or Tangent to the selected curve/edge

Required Step 1

The entities can be picked in either order. In the example below, the first entity is a Point.

The second entity is an edge.

(Remember that the line will be created depending on where you pick the curve.)

The default is Normal. If this is what you want, exit to create the line. Otherwise, toggle to Tangent.

In this case, the circle was selected at a point near the "front". Therefore, the closest tangent point is as shown below.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

If a face is selected, the system creates a line starting at the picked point and Normal to the face (the Tangent option is unavailable). If more than one line can be found, a Normal line closest to the picking point is created.

In the example below, the red line was created from point to face, Normal to the face:

Point From Curve/Face

Create a line starting from a point on a curve, edge or face with a given length, Normal or Tangent to the picked curve, edge or face.

The following pick options are available:

Curve/Edge

Required Step 1

Pick a curve or edge:

Pick a point on the picked curve or edge:

Toggle between Normal and Tangent. In this case, Normal (the default) is selected:

Click the direction arrow to flip the line 180 degrees. Change the line length accordingly.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

Face (Normal)

Required Step 1

Pick a face:

Pick a point on the picked curve or edge:

Toggle to the Normal parameter (default).

Click the direction arrow to flip the line 180 degrees. Change the line length accordingly.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

Face (Tangent)

Required Step 1

Pick a face:

Pick a point on the picked face:

Click the direction arrow to flip the line 180 degrees. Change the line length accordingly.

Toggle to the Tangent parameter. Toggle the Cross-section (default) and Section parameters displayed as C and S respectively to preview the line direction.

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

Notes:

By Direction

Create a line from a given point, of a specified length and direction. See Picking Points.

Required Step 1

Pick the point from which the line will start.

A length value appears (default=100), as well as a directional arrow.

Change the length of the line by clicking the arrows or enter a new line length value.

Click the arrow origin to set the direction of the line.

More than one point can be picked to create a number of lines. All lines the are created in one direction defined by the arrow of the 1st point picked. However, the line length value for each line can be changed:

Press OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

When completed, the Line feature will appear in the Feature Tree as follows:
