Define general NC preferences. More specific NC related preferences can be defined in NC Preferences.

The General NC dialog is displayed.

Interaction

  1. Set the parameters.

Post

  1. Select the default editor for Post Processor files. Microsoft (R) Notepad is the default system editor, however, you can define any text editor.

  2. Choose to invoke IMS as your default post processor, instead of the GPP post.

  3. Define the Cutter Compensation method.

Cutter compensation is used by NC machines to compensate the difference between the actual cutter radius and the programmed radius. This enables the operator to use a cutter with a radius different from the one used in the G-Code, without having to rewrite the G-Code.
This is used mostly for 2D Procedures, such as 2D Pocket and 2D Profile.
Two methods are usually used:

Tip Location

Create the G-Code on the cutter radius offset from the geometry contours and compensate with the difference between the actual cutter radius and the programmed radius. In the example below, this is shown as the red contour.

Geometry Location

Create the G-Code on the geometry contours and compensate with the entire cutter radius. In the example below, this is shown as the blue contour.

This method uses an offset of the tool tip, hence internal corners are rounded and loops are trimmed.

Note: Only the G-Code output is in terms of geometry, while the remaining activities (Wireframe Simulation, Simulator, Verifier, etc.) show the whole toolpath in terms of the tool tip.

Note: Cutter compensation is not available for the official release of Cimatron E 7.1. It will be available in a service pack in the near future.

Example:

Cutter Library

  1. Define whether to automatically load the Cutter Library for each new NC file.

  2. The location of the Cutter Library is displayed.
This should either be the default cutter library or the full path name of an .elt file that holds your specific Cutter Library.

Where is the default Cutter Library?

The default Cutter Library is defined as Default_ECutterLib. This points to directory Cimatron\CimatronE\Program\IT\var\profiles which holds the following cutter library files:
Tool_INCH_Lib.elt
Tool_MM_Lib.elt.

If required, press the Restore Default button from the approval options to restore the default Cutter Library.

How is the Cutter Library loaded?

When you create a new NC file, you need to define its units of measurement. When selecting a cutter from the Cutter Library, the appropriate INCH or MM library .elt file is loaded. For example, if you selected MM as the units of measurement, the cutter library is loaded from file Tool_MM_Lib.elt.

  1. Press the appropriate approval option.
