Import / Export Settings (Flavors)

Customized parameter settings for import or export operations can be defined. These settings are based on specific parameter values for individual target groups. This means that, for example, if it is known that a DXF file created using Cimatron E is to be opened using CadKey, using the DXF-CadKey export setting would load pre-defined parameters that enable the creation of a DXF file tailored specifically for CadKey.

This creates a more accurate converted file by automatically setting parameters to allow for target-specific idiosyncrasies. It also saves time by allowing you to predefine and save parameter values for certain import or export operations, and then enabling you to "recall" these parameter values by selecting the appropriate setting.

Some settings are pre-defined and are system supplied by Cimatron. Others can be user-created.

System Supplied Settings

The following parameter settings are system supplied:

Export to DXF/DWG, where the DXF/DWG file will be run using CADKEY.

Export to Assembly Step, where the STEP file will be run using SolidWorks or PTC.

Import from IGES, where the IGES file has been created using DELCAM and Visi.

User-Defined Settings

Set parameter values for file conversion operations to a specific target group (in both the General and Parameters tabs - in the Advanced Import or Export dialog).

Example:

In the example below, the following parameter values are defined for the Default export setting:

  1. Set the required parameter values.

  1. Save these parameter values as an export setting. Press the Save Current Settings icon . The Save Settings dialog is displayed.

  1. Enter a name for the new setting and press the OK button .

The newly defined setting now appears in the Export settings field for export operations (or Import settings field for import operations):

The new setting is now part of the drop-down menu for this parameter,

and also appears in the Save Settings dialog, under Existing Settings, when you define another Import / Export Setting.

Restore the default parameter values supplied by Cimatron.

Delete the selected Setting.

Confirm a change and exit the dialog.

Exit the dialog without making changes.

The next time you use this conversion format, the last setting used (together with its parameter values) is displayed, saving you the time required to reset multiple parameters.
