Chapter 25: Links
1) Difference in File Size
Both scenes are the same, but the le sizes of the scene
arranged using the Link feature and the scene arranged
by copying the objects are different. This is because
linked objects dont have their own object information;
they only contain information designating them as a
link to the original object.
The example scene that was arranged using the Link
feature is 4.12 MB, while the scene arranged by
copying each object is a whopping 28.8 MB.
2) Editing Multiple Objects All at
Once [Aggregate Editing]
Arranging objects using the Link feature makes it
easy to make changes afterward should revisions
become necessary. By simply editing the original
object, the linked objects will automatically reect
these changes, saving you the hassle of editing and
rearranging each object individually.
3) Difference in Memory Consump-
tion [Use] During Rendering
Like the difference in le size between scenes
made with and without the Link feature, memory
consumption during rendering may vary depending
on whether or not the scene was created using the
Link feature. Because rendering time will increase
dramatically if virtual memory is used, using the Link
feature may speed up rendering considerably.
In the classroom scene example, the 3000x2000 pixel
image uses 348.3 MB of memory during rendering if
linked objects were used, and 376.5 MB if the objects
were all copied separately.
