Delete and truncate cache files
You may want to delete or truncate you cache for one of the following reasons:
- If you modify a dynamic fluid simulation after caching, for example, by moving an emitter or changing the Swirl attribute value, you must disable or delete the cache so that the modifications appear when you play the fluid’s animation.
- You must re-create the cache before you render your fluid
- You can delete the cache to free up disk space
To delete a cache, you can use one of two methods:
- Delete Cache
Deletes the entire cache for the fluid.
- Truncate Cache
Deletes the cache from the current frame forward.
Be aware that if you disable the fluid solver (rather than the cache), you also disable playback of the cache and will not be able to create a cache for your fluid.
To delete a cache
- Select the fluid container with the cache you want to delete.
- Select Fluid Effects > Delete Cache or click
.
Maya deletes the entire cache for the fluid.
To truncate a cache
- Select the fluid container with the cache you want to truncate.
- Move to the frame where you want to truncate the cache.
- Select Fluid Effects > Truncate Cache or click .
Maya deletes the cache from the next frame forward. For example, if you truncate a 1-100 frame cache at frame 20, then frames 21-100 are deleted.
