Create fluids cache files

You can specify which fluid properties are saved in the cache file: Density, Velocity, Temperature, Fuel, and Color. You can only cache properties that use the Static or Dynamic grid method. You can also cache grid Texture Coordinates. This ensures that the texture renders appropriately if you use the playback cache to render.

To create a fluids cache

  1. Select the fluid container.
  2. Select Fluid Effects > Create Cache > .

The Fluid Effects > Create Cache window appears.

  1. Set creation options, if necessary, and then click the Create button.

Maya creates a fluids playback cache file for the selected fluid container. The file is in the current project’s data folder, and named scenename_fluidShapen.mcfp.

Usually you do not need to know the location of the files. However, if you move the scene to a different project, you must also move the fluids cache file to the corresponding data folder of that project so that the scene plays or renders using the cache.

Note
When you save an existing scene with a new name, Maya makes a copy of the fluids cache files and renames them to correspond with the new scene name.
