Sketching limitations (Windows only)
Limitations related to brushes, shapes, masks, image planes, and canvas layers.General
![]()
Shapes may not draw correctly if the canvas is rotated in some arbitrary angle.
![]()
2D Text created in V13.0 and after cannot be edited in previous released versions.
![]()
As of V13.0, to quickly switch between painting and erasing using the same brush, with a brush tool active press and release 1 to paint or 2 to erase.
![]()
Brush Symmetry has some problems when Snap to Edge is used: the stroke is shifted to the oposite side of the symmetry.
![]()
You cannot save several Brush Symmetry tools on the shelf with different settings.
![]()
The paint panel shows shape attributes if the current tool isn't a brush. Therefore, if you are in a tool such as the pencil tool, you won't be able to change the shape's attribute from the paint panel..
The Paint panel only lets you change the attributes for it currently selected tool.
This may cause workflow problems. For example, if you create either a shape, stencil or mask shape, and then select a pencil, the pencil options take effect. If you then go to the layer editor and select the shape layer, you cannot change its shape attributes until you select the shape tool again.

Cintiq stylus pen users have problems seeing their marking menus. Marking menus can appear to the right, left, up, or down from where the user places the stylus down on the screen.
Move the stylus pen slowly when using marking menus.
![]()
It is not possible to change the mode of any paint layer (for example to Multiply, Lighten, Darken, etc) when using of a Hide or Show brush. Only the Normal mode appears in the pull down menu. Changing the active brush to a different mode, or selecting a different tool will correct the problem.
File Import/Export
![]()
Imported TIF images from PhotoShop have mask problems: you may see a dark border on the image.
![]()
Importing selection masks made in AliasStudio version 12 causes image layer mapping problems.
The selection masks are no longer linked to the AliasStudio version 12 layers.
To resolve this problem, open your model in AliasStudio version 12, copy the selection mask and paste it to a new image layer. Save the file and then import it into AliasStudio version 13 and later. Use this image layer to create a new mask layer (WIndows > Edit ors > Canvas Layer Editor > Convert > Copy to mask).
Canvas planes
![]()
Shapes that extend outside the bounds of the canvas and are filled with textures may cause inaccurate placement of the textures when rasterizing, duplicating, merging layers, rendering, or saving.
![]()
When you are importing an image plane in a perspective window using the Specified setting, the image plane is imported at the wrong size.
Use the Fit Window setting to import image planes into a perspective window.
Paint
![]()
The text tool (Paint > Text Image
) does not support multi-byte languages such as Japanese, Korean, or Chinese.
![]()
Brush strokes in a Magnify (zoom) window will not be immediately updated in its parent window, and vice-versa. You must click on the other window to see the updated brush strokes.
![]()
Predictive stroke hotkeys do not work for Marker brushes
Workaround: Use the hot spots interface to access the predictive strokes tools for markers. (Hold down the Space bar with your cursor over a canvas, after choosing a brush).
Shapes
![]()
Shapes may not work on symmetry geometry.
