Using the Mesh Resolution Option

The inventor translator can generate different mesh resolutions. When importing, you can choose the resolution that suits the needs of the project.

  1. From the File menu, choose Import.

  2. On the Select File To Import dialog, set the file type to Autodesk Inventor (*.IPT,*.IAM).

  3. From the BrakeDisk folder, open the Brake Rotor.ipt file.

    The Autodesk Inventor File Import dialog opens.

  4. Choose the Completely Replace Current Scene option, if necessary.

  5. Set the Mesh Resolution to –10 by moving the slider all the way to the left.

  6. Verify that the Inventor File Vertical Direction option is set to Z Axis.

  7. Click OK to import the file.

  8. Press F4 to view edged faces, if necessary.

    Next, you’ll import the same file using a higher resolution.

  9. From the File menu, choose Import.

  10. Open Brake Rotor.ipt.

  11. Choose the Merge With Current Scene option. This brings in the rotor and retain the current one in the scene.

  12. Set the Mesh Resolution to 10 by moving the slider all the way to the right.

  13. Click OK to import the file.

    A warning appears indicating a conflicting import name conflict.

  14. Click OK to accept the new name offered.

  15. The new brake rotor object comes in on top of the old one.

  16. On the main toolbar, click the Select And Move button, and then right-click it.

  17. Enter 12 in the X axis field.

    The two rotors illustrate the different settings for mesh resolution.
