Rendering a Background

Having a background image appear when you render requires you to create an environment background. In the following steps, you will use the Material Editor to define an environment that you'll then use as a background for rendering.

Set up:

  1. On the menu bar, choose File > Open.

The Open File dialog is displayed.

  2. Open highres_02.max in the \tutorials\arch\ folder.

Choose a map as a render background:

  1. On the menu bar, choose Rendering > Environment to display the Environment And Effects dialog.

  2. In the Environment panel > Common Parameters rollout > Background group, click the Environment Map button. (It is labeled “None” until you assign a map.)

    The Material/Map Browser is displayed.

  3. Choose Bitmap from the Browser's list of map types, and then click OK.

A Select Bitmap Image File dialog is displayed.

  4. Choose img0018–512.jpg, and then click Open.

This file is also in the \tutorials\arch\ folder.

The file name is now shown on the Environment Map button.

  5. Make sure the Camera Street view is active. Then on the toolbar, click Quick Render.

The Camera Street view is rendered with the background behind the shaded geometry.
