Both Studio and Luminaire palettes contain tools that are considered package tools because if the way they are constructed. They are composed of 3D geometry that incorporates material, lighting and/or camera features, in the case of studios and material studios, or 3D geometry with references to photometric data files (IES files) that specify how light is distributed, such as luminaires.
Studios are pre-built 'stages' you can drag into a scene. Studios cut down the time you might spend setting up a backdrop, lights, cameras, and materials. They give you a ready-made environment into which you can place other Autodesk VIZ models or use the File Link Manager to link models built with Autodesk AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop, Mechanical Desktop, Inventor or Revit.
The Tool Palettes Set contains two sets of studios: Studios and Material Studios. Most studios are 25' x 25' x 25' in size while a few are more definite, like the acre and half acre material studios. Both palettes contain studios that are pre-lit and include at least one camera. You can change the placement and other parameters if you want different views or lighting.
The Studios palette contains eight pre-set environments. Unlike the Material Studios, these studios do not have pre-assigned materials, which means you can experiment with materials from the material palettes, Material Editor or Content Browser.
The Material Studios palette contains 12 different pre-set environments that have pre-assigned materials. These studios offer a variety of material combinations and once added to the scene, their materials can be accessed from the Scene–In Use palette.
Before merging or linking your model into a studio, it's good practice to note the size of the incoming model. If your model is quite large, like an entire building, you will want to scale the studio so your model will comfortably fit inside.
To change the scale of the studio, select all the objects and use the Select and Uniform Scale tool. It's important to select all the objects, including lights and cameras so as you scale the studio, the distances of lights and cameras to their targets are also scaled.
Merge or link your model or part assembly into the scene after you have set up the studio.
If using Studios, not Material Studios, assign materials from the material palettes to the structural elements, such as the dome, floor, walls, and ground. Test render the studio to check for photo-realism before adding your model. This way the test rendering is more compact and is rendered faster. Once the studio is set to your liking, your primary focus can be on the model you're placing in the studio.
While technically, luminaires are lighting tools, their structure places them in a separate category. The two luminaires palettes provide an easy and convenient access to lighting fixtures made by ERCO and Simes. These lighting fixtures are a combination of 3D geometry and luminaires that are grouped as assemblies. You can select the precise lighting fixture you want to use in your project from the palette and open, merge or xref it into your scene.
The ERCO and Simes Luminaire palettes contain a wide variety of lighting fixtures manufactured by each company including spotlights, flood lights, wall washers and many more.
