A Free Linear light emits light from a line, like a fluorescent tube. You can set the light distribution; this light has two types of distribution, with corresponding icons. A free linear light has no target object. You use transforms to aim the light.

To create a Free Linear light:
Choose Photometric from the drop-down list. (Standard is the default.)
Click the viewport location where you want the light to be.
The light is now part of the scene. It points away from you in the viewport you clicked.
You can position the light and adjust its direction with the transform tools. You can also adjust the light's position with the Place Highlight command.
To adjust the light:
On the Main toolbar, click Move. Drag the selection to position the light.
On the Main toolbar, click Rotate. Drag the selection to adjust the light.
Tip: You can also adjust the light's position with the Place Highlight command.
