Contact surfaces in ANSYS LS-DYNA allow you to represent a wide range of types of interaction between components in a model. This chapter provides guidelines for defining physically realistic contact in an explicit dynamic analysis.

It should be noted that contact is represented differently in an explicit dynamic analysis than it is in other types of ANSYS analyses. In other analyses, the contact is represented by actual “contact elements.” For explicit dynamics, there are no contact elements. You simply indicate the contact surfaces, the type of contact between them, and other parameters related to the contact type.
