This section provides a basic introduction to OptiStruct and outlines its major capabilities and valuable features. The bulk of the section works to provide instruction for commonly performed tasks, such as the creation of a finite element model, and includes topics all the way through to post-processing.

OptiStruct provides two general levels of application; analysis (either finite element analysis, FEA, or multi-body dynamics analysis, MBD) and structural optimization.

Basic FEA knowledge is a prerequisite to performing structural optimization. Participation in an OptiStruct training course and in finite element pre- and post-processor training, preferably Altair HyperMesh, is recommended.
