To create CGAP elements:
Select the gaps panel on the 1D page.
Choose the create subpanel.
To create a CGAP element choose the node-node option, or to create multiple CGAPG elements choose the node-elem option.
If you chose node-node in step 3:
- Click property= and select the property with the PGAP card image loaded.
- Click the switch under orientation: and choose the desired method of orientation.
|
Note: |
It is not necessary to define an orientation for OptiStruct CGAP elements, where GA and GB are not coincident. If no orientation is defined the GA-GB direction is chosen as the element x-direction. |
- Click from node and select one end of the gap from the graphics window.
- Click to node and select the other end of the gap from the graphics window.
- Once you select the second node (assuming that the orientation is already defined), HyperMesh creates a CGAP element.
If you chose node-elem in step 3:
- Click property= and select the property with the PGAP card image loaded.
- Click search tol = and enter an adequate tolerance.
- Gap elements will only be created if the distance between a selected node and its projection onto a selected element is less than the search tolerance.
- Click the switch under orientation: and choose the desired method of orientation.

Note: |
It is not necessary to define an orientation for OptiStruct CGAP elements, where GA and GB are not coincident. If no orientation is defined the GA-GB direction is chosen as the element x-direction. |
- Click nodes and select the nodes to be considered.
- Click elements and select the elements to be considered.
- If the elements selected are solids, then it is necessary to define the faces of the solids to be considered. This is facilitated through the face nodes and break angle fields
- If you select three nodes on a single element face, HyperMesh will consider all connected faces (of selected elements) based on the break angle settings. If the angle between the normals of two neighboring faces is greater than the break angle, the selection will not proceed to the neighboring face.
- Click create.
- CGAPG elements are generated where projections of the selected nodes onto the selected elements (or element faces) within the search tolerance exist.
