Recover Utility

OptiStruct flushes all output from the I/O buffer at the end of each iteration. If a job ends abnormally, results are generated for all completed iterations.

When FORMAT=HM or OUTPUT,HM is used in the I/O options section, OptiStruct writes the analyses results in HyperMesh binary results format. This format requires the number of completed iterations to appear in a header at the top of the file. OptiStruct updates the header only once, when the job is completed. This includes cases where the job terminates abnormally and OptiStruct is able to detect those errors.

If the job terminates due to a system related error such as a full disk or power failure, the header is not updated. Should this happen, you can recover completed iterations using the external utility, recover.

To use this utility:

From the command line, type:

recover prefix[.ext]

where

prefix is the filename prefix

ext is the file name extension (default = res)

recover then reads the file, determines the number of successful iterations, and updates the header of the results file. This file can then be used for post-processing.

Note:

recover assumes that the last simulation written in the .res file is incomplete, therefore, it truncates the last simulation from the results file. Using recover repeatedly on the same file results in lost simulations.
