To define design variables for shape optimization:
Before creating shape design variables, shapes must be created using either the perturbations panel or HyperMorph, found in the optimization panel on the Analysis page.
Select the optimization panel on the Analysis page and select the shape panel.

Select Shape from the Optimization pull-down menu.
Select the desvar subpanel.
Click on shapes.
Select shapes from the shape list.
Click select.
Enter the initial value, lower bound and upper bound.
Click create.
`This will create a design variable for each shape selected. The design variable will have the same name as the shape. Upon export, the label of the design variable will be the first eight character of its name. Design variables can also be created individually.
Click animate to view an animation of the allowable shape change.
