CORD1S – Spherical Coordinate System Definition, Form 1

Description

Defines a spherical coordinate system by reference to three grid points. The first point is the origin, the second lies on the polar axis, and the third lies on the plane of the azimuthal origin.

Comments

  1. Coordinate system identification numbers on all CORD1R, CORD1C, CORD1S, CORD2R, CORD2C, and CORD2S entries must all be unique.

  2. The three points G1, G2, G3 must be noncollinear. Noncollinearity is checked by the geometry processor.

  3. The location of the grid point (P in the sketch) in this coordinate system is given by
    (R, image\theta.gif, image\phi.gif) where image\theta.gif and image\phi.gif are measured in degrees.

  4. The displacement coordinate directions at P are dependent on the location of P as shown above by (ur, uimage\theta.gif , uimage\phi.gif).

  5. Points on the polar axis may not have their displacement directions defined in this coordinate system since ambiguity results. In this case, the defining rectangular system is used.

  6. Up to two coordinate systems may be defined on a single entry.
