The Node Library

Figure 4.2. The Node Library

The Node Library contains all the node types that can be used to build a Work Flow. To insert a node in the Work Flow (i.e., to drop it on the Work Flow canvas) you need to first select the desired node type from the node library. You accomplish this by simply clicking on the node type; if the node belongs to a group of buttons, you need to first click on the small black triangle in the icon representing the group, and then select from the pop-up pane the desired node.(Note: the currently selected node can always be identified by the greyish look of the corresponding icon in the Node Library). Now that you have selected the desired node type, you can simply move the mouse pointer to the position in the canvas where you want to drop the node, and press the left mouse button.

Tip

After a node has been inserted, the currently selected node is resetted automatically, and the pointer (represented by the top-most icon in the Node Library) becomes selected. If you wish to insert multiple instances of the same node type, you can prevent this automatic reset by simply keeping the Ctrl button pressed while inserting a node. Conversely, to manually reset the selected node type you can simply click on the pointer icon.

Once you have inserted a node, you can configure it by double-clicking on it. A configuration panel will pop-up, displaying all the properties relative to the node, plus the current and potential connections between the node and all the other nodes currently in the Work Flow.

Let's now see what each node does, how it should be used, and to which other nodes it can be connected.
