Render to Disk
The Render to Disk command allows you to render your image directly to disk. This is the best choice if you have created a very large image, because it lets you set the DPI and saves memory. In addition, rendering to disk is usually faster than rendering to screen (although this varies).
In addition to saving files to 2D formats (.bmp, .jpg, etc.), you can also save files to the following formats using Render to Disk:
- HTML (.htm)
- QuickTime VR (.mov)
To render a scene to disk:
- Choose File > Render to Disk. The Render to Disk dialog will come up.

- The Output Size in Pixels, Print Resolution, and Output Size in Inches will show the current settings for the scene.
- Change the Print Resolution to the dpi you need for the image, the Output Size in Inches will change to match the new dpi.

- If you need the output size to be larger, change either the Output Size in Pixels or the Output Size in Inches, adjusting either one will automatically update the other setting.

- If rendering a QuickTime VR, select the button next to that option.

- Click on the OK icon to accept the changes and the Save As dialog will come up. Select the file type and change the filename if needed, then click on Save.

- Once you click on Save, the Render Progress panel will come up where you can watch the progress of the render.
Note: If the render seems to stop in one place for a long time, clicking on the Progress Panel will sometimes "wake up" the render so it will continue.
- You can stop the render by clicking on the Cancel icon and the following dialog will come up asking if you want to stop or resume the render.

- Once the render has completed, you can find the image in the location you specified in the Save As dialog.
