Loading 8-bit and 16-bit Pictures
To load 8-Bit and 16-bit images into the Terrain Editor:
- Create a terrain image in a paint program on a square canvas (i.e., 512x512, 256x256, etc.).
- Open Bryce and create a terrain or symlat. Click on the
button next to the selected terrain to enter the Terrain Editor.
- In the Terrain Editor, for 16-Bit images check the Terrain Resolution to make sure it is at least at 512 - ultra fine, although 1024 - massive resolution or higher is probably better. Just remember that if you downgrade the resolution later then upgrade it again, you will lose some resolution in the process. See the examples at the bottom of the page.

- Click on the Pictures tab in the Editing Tools panel.

- In the Pictures tab, click on Load above the first window.

- The Open dialog will come up, locate and select your 16-bit PNG file. Click on Open.

- The image will be loaded into the first window. Click on Copy under the first window, then on Paste under the second window.

- The copy will be pasted into the second window. Click on Apply to load the image into the Terrain Canvas.

- The image will be loaded into the Terrain Canvas where you can modify it further if needed.
