Creating 16-bit Pictures

The instructions below use Photoshop as the paint program.

To create 16-bit images for import into the Terrain Editor:

  1. Open Photoshop and choose File > New from the menu. The New file dialog will come up.
  2. Enter a name, width, height, and resolution. Choose a color mode of Grayscale and select 16 bit from the pull-down menu. If your background color is black, set the Background Contents to Background Color.

  3. Click on OK to create the new image. The canvas title will indicate the color mode and bit size.

  4. Paint your terrain or image using grayscale colors.
  5. Save the image, selecting None for PNG Options and clicking on OK.
