Rounding the corners of toolpaths

Rounding the corners of toolpaths enables a smoother toolpath, which is essential for High Speed Machining.

Round Corners: Off

Round Corners: On

The following Round Corner parameters are displayed if ReRough and non-parallel options of Rough and Finish are selected:

Round Corners

Round the corners of toolpaths, in all areas, for High Speed Machining.
If this parameter is selected, the following parameters are displayed:

Preferred Corner Radius

Set the target radius to be used for rounding the corners of the toolpath.

If the Preferred Corner Radius cannot be applied as it causes an interference with the part, or removes a large portion of the original lane, reduce the radius as appropriate.

The following Round Corner parameters are displayed if Finish by Limit Angle is selected. These parameters enable you to define specific round corner values for horizontal and vertical areas:

Horiz. Area Round Corners

Round the corners of toolpaths, in horizontal areas, for High Speed Machining.

If this parameter is selected, Horiz. Preferred Corner Radius is displayed.

Horiz. Preferred Corner Radius

Set the preferred radius of the round corners in horizontal areas.

The Horizontal Preferred Corner Radius must be ≥ the Vertical Preferred Corner Radius.

The Horizontal Preferred Corner Radius must be ≤ Tool diameter/2, and ≥ 3*Surface tolerance.

Vertical Area Round Corners

Round the corners of toolpaths, in vertical areas, for High Speed Machining.

If this parameter is selected, Vertical Preferred Corner Radius is displayed.

Vertical Preferred Corner Radius

Set the preferred radius of the round corners in vertical areas.

The Vertical Preferred Corner Radius must be ≤ the Horizontal Preferred Corner Radius.

The Vertical Preferred Corner Radius must be ≤ Tool diameter/2, and ≥ 3*Surface tolerance.

Warning: If Vertical Area Round Corners is used, in order to avoid tool breakage, use Horiz. Area Round Corners with the Horiz. Preferred Corner Radius > Vertical Preferred Corner Radius.

The following Round Corner parameter is displayed if the parallel options of Rough and Finish are selected:

Final Pass Round Corner

Round the corners of toolpaths, in horizontal areas, for High Speed Machining.
If this parameter is selected,
Horiz. Approx. Radius is displayed in the Finish procedures and Approx. Radius is displayed in Rough Parallel.
See above for explanations of these two parameters.

Note: The parameter Round Connections is displayed if:

  1. the parallel options of Rough and Finish are selected.

  2. the Cutting Mode (in Rough Parallel) or the Horiz. Cutting Mode (in the Finish procedures) is set to Mixed.
