Description This command is used to run the Preferences dialog, from where you can set up various workspace options. These are global system settings that apply to any schematic document you work on.
Use After launching the command, the Preferences dialog will appear. The dialog is divided into four tabs:
Schematic tabUse this tab to set up options such as the appearance of the labeling of part pins, enable/disable the Drag Orthogonal and Auto-Junctioning options, define default power object names and set the default template used when creating new schematic documents.
The Document scope for filtering and selection field allows you to determine whether a filter (and any subsequent object selection) is applied to just the current document, or all open schematic documents (regardless of the parent project that they belong to).
Graphical Editing tabUse this tab to set various options controlling the editing environment, such as autopanning style and speed, cursor type, selection and grid colors and undo/redo stack size.
A particularly useful option is Click Clears Selection. If this is enabled, a single click away from all design objects will clear all objects that were previously selected. Clicking on design objects will pass selection to the last object clicked. If disabled, selection is cumulative.
Default Primitives tabUse this tab to control the default properties and behavior of the design objects used to create your schematics. All object types are available for editing under the Primitives list. Select the object type and click Edit Values. The properties dialog associated with that particular object type is opened, ready for editing.
The default settings can also be changed during placement of design objects within the schematic sheet. While in placement mode, (and before the object is fully placed), using the TAB key enables you to not only edit the properties of that particular object but also updates the default settings to reflect any changes you make. This is only possible if the Permanent option is disabled in the Default Primitives tab.
If the Permanent option is enabled, editing object properties using the TAB key applies only to that particular object being placed. The default settings remain unchanged.
You can save default settings, load settings from a previously saved file or reset the defaults for one or all design objects, to those values present at initial software install.
Orcad SDT Options tabUse this tab to define options relating to the import/export of an Orcad SDT-formatted netlist.
Notes Use the dialog What's This Help ? to gain information on each of the individual options available.
